GroupSignal vs Groups Watcher

Groups Watcher started as a Chrome extension and is now a managed service that watches groups from its own Facebook accounts. GroupSignal is a Chrome extension that reads the groups you've joined through your own account. That one difference shapes the rest.

Your account or theirs

Groups Watcher no longer recommends Chrome extensions, saying they can get your Facebook account banned. Its service keeps your account out of it: you don't install anything, share your Facebook login or need to be in the group, and it runs whether or not your computer is on.

GroupSignal works through the Facebook account signed in to your Chrome, so it reads what you can see, private groups included, and no one else holds your login. No tool can promise how Facebook treats an account, because Facebook sets its own rules. GroupSignal reads only the groups you choose, one at a time with pauses between them, at a steady pace you can't speed up, and waits longer whenever Facebook asks it to slow down. It needs Chrome open on a computer, and nothing is checked while Chrome is closed.

Replying to posts

Groups Watcher's site doesn't mention posting or commenting for you, and GroupSignal never posts, comments, reacts or sends messages. Either way, you decide whether a post is worth answering and reply yourself (how to reply within a group's rules).

How they find posts

Groups Watcher matches keywords you include or exclude, or alerts on every post, and can add an AI score for each post's intent. GroupSignal uses no keywords: you describe who and what to find, and what to ignore, and AI reads every new post against that, by meaning and in any language.

When they check

Groups Watcher says it checks every monitored group every 60 seconds. GroupSignal reads your groups continuously while Chrome is open and signed in to Facebook, one after another at a steady pace, and alert times vary. When Chrome opens again, it catches up on posts from up to the last 24 hours.

What they cost

Groups Watcher Professional is $99/month for 25 groups, plus $4/month for each extra group, with no free trial and a 7-day money-back guarantee. GroupSignal is $10/month for five group slots and $2/month for each extra slot, up to 25, so 25 groups in one monitor cost $50/month. It has a 7-day free trial, no card required.

Which to choose

  • Groups Watcher if your groups must be watched while no computer of yours is on, or your own Facebook account shouldn't be involved.
  • GroupSignal if you want the groups you've already joined, private ones included, watched through your own account, posts matched by meaning, and a lower price.
