Facebook group monitoring tools compared
Tools that watch Facebook groups for you work in one of two ways: as an extension in your own Chrome, or as a service that watches from its own Facebook accounts. Here's how GroupSignal compares with three others, with every fact about another tool taken from that tool's own pages, listed at the end.

Two ways to watch groups
An extension in your Chrome
GroupSignal and One Stop Social read groups through the Facebook account signed in to your Chrome. They see what you see, private groups included, and no one else holds your Facebook login. They work only while Chrome is open on a computer and signed in to Facebook.
A managed service
Groups Watcher and Groups Monitor watch from their own servers and Facebook accounts. Nothing runs on your computer, and your own Facebook account isn't involved. They see only the groups their own accounts get into: Groups Monitor asks to join a private group and starts once an admin approves.
Is a Chrome extension safe for my Facebook account?
Groups Watcher, which started as an extension, now says extensions can get your Facebook account banned. No tool can promise how Facebook treats an account, because Facebook sets and enforces its own rules. What you can check is how a tool behaves on your account:
- Does it act for you? GroupSignal never posts, comments, reacts or sends messages.
- How much does it read? GroupSignal reads only the groups you choose, one at a time with pauses between pages and between groups, at a steady pace you can't speed up. When Facebook asks it to slow down, it waits longer before reading again.
- Where does your login go? GroupSignal uses the Facebook account already signed in to your Chrome. Your password, cookies and session never leave your browser.
If you'd rather keep your own account out of it entirely, a managed service does that, and sees only the groups its own accounts can join.
Which kind suits you
- A managed service if your own Facebook account shouldn't be involved, or your groups must be watched while no computer of yours is on.
- An extension if you want the groups you've already joined watched through your own account, private ones included, at a lower listed price.
- GroupSignal if you also want posts matched by meaning in any language, an inbox you can check from your phone, and a tool that never posts for you (what a Chrome extension can and can't do).
